Since 1971, the Museum annually hosts its arts and crafts fair, which is traditionally held on the first weekend in June. In the forty-eight years of its existence, the fair has become an event of national significance – now it has become the symbol of crafts-work of Riga and Latvia and a festival for its participants and visitors.
The fair is a place of meeting and professional experience exchange for applied folk arts craftsmen of different generations and crafts from all the historical regions of Latvia and abroad. At the same time, the fair is a presentation of the year’s best achievements in the world of crafts and a great opportunity for craftsmen to show-off and sell their best products.
The fair at the Open-Air Museum is an extensive exhibition, as well as the most ambitious and well attended such event of the year. Not only craftsmen, but also folk groups, dance groups, ensembles of singers, choirs, masters of old games and toys, chefs presenting traditional dishes and other participants enrich the fair. They are the ones who maintain and creatively change traditional culture of the Latvian nation, introducing it into modern society.
Museum opening hours: 10:00 – 17:00
